handswillwork: (What to the right)
Abby is nervous. That might be ridiculous, but she can't help it. She's nervous anyway; this wasn't her plan, and applying to colleges outside of New York was pretty much a whim. She always figured she'd stay near home for college, that she and Gabe would get an apartment nearby, give them all a chance to get used to them not being with at least one parent -- or running all over the country constantly, for that matter. She only got in to a little less than half, but that's still more of them than she expected to accept her.

Now that this is an option, though, she wants it, more than she realized. She's just not sure if she wants this, could want anything, enough to leave Gabe behind. And after a lot of time running around options and weighing pros and cons in her head, she knows it's time to talk to him, find out what he wants, and what he thinks.

It's ridiculous to be nervous about this, but she is anyway, plucking nervously at the edge of the letter in her pocket with one thumb before raising her hand to knock on the bedroom door. The other hand is loaded down, a bag hanging off her wrist and a take-out container from Starbucks balanced in hand. Because somehow if she brings enough junk food and coffee to this conversation, that will guarantee it turns out okay and she has nothing to worry about.
